Absolutely Amazing ! First time for me to have a home built and what an unbelievable experience. I can’t even describe the amount of detail and professionalism the Dan Schlaak puts into making a true dream come true. Not only was he responsive, he walked me through every detail and explained the why behind every question. His ability to visualize and help with brilliant ideas made this experience better than I could have ever expected. He stayed on task, stayed on budget, and what I thought might be stressful was nothing but a blast. He is a perfectionist like I’ve never seen and I can not imagine this entire process with any other builder. Myself, and my entire family have never been more proud.Open Prairie Custom Homes…….. Dan is among the few! He does exactly what he says he will do; he comes through!I wanted to provide a “progress report” of our custom home builder now that we are well underway with our dream home. We live and die by reviews and count on them to inform our biggest decisions, so we definitely believe in contributing in valuable reviews, too. Hopefully this review helps someone else choose their dream home builder 😊We contracted with Dan Schlaak (Owner/Operator of Open Prairie Custom Homes) to build our dream home in Weatherford, TX. Knowing it was perhaps the worst time in recent history to endeavor in such a project, we prepared to be regularly upset, frustrated, and surprised by bad news, delays, and cost overruns. But, we did our homework, researched dozens of custom home builders, met with a few, and ultimately chose Dan. Why?Well, we knew we would be one of just a very few “irons” he had in the fire. Dan only takes on a couple projects at a time, ensuring he has the capacity to be available and responsive to his clients - and he is!From the very onset of project discussions, Dan was adamant that we get what we want, and he has done just that this far. He keeps us updated on every detail (good or bad), he gives us lots of heads-up on what is next and what we need to be thinking about and ready to make decisions on, he answers ALL our our endless (and often stupid) questions, he entertains our crazy ideas and offers sage advice on a better way to do it.Ultimately, he is making this project (which is supposed to be the most stressful thing a couple can do) very pleasant and low stress. We have so many friends and colleagues trying to build right now and having nightmarish experiences. Not us, thanks to Dan.He promised us a dream home, and he’s delivering.I’ll update this review as the project progresses 😉

Dan is professional, responsive, and very easy to work with. He has a great memory from conversations, pays very close attention to detail, and performs quality work. He communicated well with us throughout the entire home build process. Just moved in to our new home, and we love it!

If you’re looking for the right person to build your home and you want someone who communicates with you during every step, Dan really listened to the direction my wife and I wanted to go when building our first home. He surpassed all of our expectations. His attention to detail and hard work made for an easy and exciting journey! I’m so thankful and very impressed with how our first family home finished up.
